Skin Care:   Protection, Rejuvenation, and Healing

Our skin is a miracle garment. It's soft and pliable yet strong, waterproof, and self-repairing. It’s also one of the first things people notice when they look at us.

Our skin communicates our age, and overall health.

The skin is our largest single organ, comprising about 16% of our body weight. [1]
Healthy skin helps to regulate our body temperature while also securely retaining our inner moisture. That’s no small feat, considering that, by weight we are about 60% water.

Skin is also the outer layer of our immune system, isolating us from a host of invaders. Glands in our skin also help us to excrete waste products, but sadly, it's also an avenue for absorbing a wide variety of dangerous environmental chemicals. [2]

This issue of HealthQuest will review Shaklee’s unique collection of natural skin care products, so that we can maintain that rosy glow of health at every age. We will also discuss several skin disorders (psoriasis, eczema, and acne) that respond well to nutritional management.

Not Found in Any Shaklee Product

The Environmental Working Group reviewed over 27,000 personal care products and found the carcinogen 1,4-dioxane in:

      55% of baby bubble baths,
      57% of baby shampoos, and
      55% of baby soaps
    . [3]

That’s why it’s as important to know what’s NOT in your favorite product as what IS.
Shaklee’s number one concern has ALWAYS been about product safety.

Here’s a list of other corrosive chemicals that you will NEVER see
in any Shaklee product:

  • parabens (endocrine disruptor, breast cancer) [4, 5]

  • FD&C or D&C dyes (carcinogen, hyperactivity in children, disrupts immunity)
    [6], [7], [8]

  • butyl cellosolve (adrenal tumors, birth defects, carcinogen) [9], [10]

  • formaldehyde (carcinogen, skin rash, asthma) [11], [12]

  • phenols (dermatitis, cytotoxicity, kidney damage) [13], [14],

  • propylene glycol (endocrine disruptor, allergies, asthma) [15], [16]

Shaklee also never uses: sodium hydroxide, 1,4- dioxane, sodium lauryl or laureth sulfates, naphthalene, ammonia, benzene, kerosene, cresol, petroleum distillates, chlorine, or hydrochloric, sulfuric, sulfamic, or phosphoric acids.

Unfortunately, all those (dangerous) chemicals are routinely found in supermarket and salon shampoos, moisturizers, shaving and cleansing gels, tanning solutions, and numerous pharmaceuticals. They are even found in some commercial toothpastes.   UGH!

Product labels also DO NOT reveal their concentrations, nor the adverse effects of these pervasive chemicals found in everyday products.

This is an especially troublesome threat to children,
who's skin readily absorbs toxic chemicals.
[17]

I am so grateful that Shaklee ethics and manufacturing standards are above reproach. You can trust that their products are non-toxic while also maintaining effectiveness. [18]

Shaklee even provides a 42-page document titled The Shaklee Ingredient Glossary which describes every ingredient found in their nutritional products. The first few pages define the difference between natural, naturally derived, and scientifically formulated ingredients. [19]

Shaklee also produced an extensive Glossary of Personal Care Ingredients which lists every ingredient used in their personal care products.

No other manufacturer maintains such transparency in their ingredient choices, or their commitment to product purity and safety.

Now, let’s talk about what we can do to “save our hides”.
