The Digestion Blues (continued)
As we age, many foods we used to thrive on may begin to disagree with us. Those foods include beans, broccoli, several whole grains, and an alarming number of fruits and vegetables.
EZ-Gest solves this dilemma by including ALL the enzymes required to properly digest ALL of those important foods! Remember: It’s the lack of these enzymes that causes incomplete digestion, and THAT is what leads to the bloating and pain.
EZ-Gest also contains alpha-galactosidase to help us digest the complex sugars found in legumes (beans, lentils, peanuts) and many of the cruciferous vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, and brussels sprouts). With EZ-Gest you can say goodbye to the discomfort associated with these foods.
More importantly, these enzymes provide a lot more than just relief: the fiber in legumes helps prevent constipation, intestinal polyps, and the promotion of several forms of intestinal cancer.
[26]
Eating crucifers is equally important: they are a rich source of sulfur-containing compounds, known as glucosinolates, and they also contain sulforaphane, another protective phytonutrient. There is considerable research suggesting that these cruciferous compounds inhibit cancer, and some forms of neurologic disease.

EZ-Gest also contains the enzymes protease, peptidase, amylase and lipase, so that we all can eat ALL THE FOODS associated with a complete and well-balanced diet, containing meats, beans, fruits, and ANY vegetable. Finally, EZ-Gest is very important for anyone suffering from the digestive disorders we are reviewing, AND for almost everyone over the age of 50.

The Third Digestive Failure: Poor Intestinal Absorption
|
The small intestine combines bile and other pancreatic and liver enzymes to finish the job of releasing nutrients for absorption. The intestines also contain billions of beneficial bacteria, which contribute to numerous digestive functions. Antibiotics and certain drugs can destroy these helpful populations, permitting other invasive bacteria to thrive. This can shift the pH of the intestine, forcing the natural yeast Candida albicans to shift from the friendly fermentation process into their filamentous or hyphal state,
[27]
where they essentially poke their root-like structures through the intestinal walls, creating leaky gut syndrome.
Digestive disorders within the intestine and colon may also evolve because of prolonged inflammation. This includes the spectrum of disorders spanning from irritable or inflammatory bowel to the most severe form of ulcerative colitis. As inflammation increases, the ability to absorb nutrients declines. This is a vicious cycle. The principal cause of this inflammation is now referred to as the pro-inflammatory diet.
[28]
The average American diet has a massive imbalance between their Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acid content. The ideal dietary ratio between these 2 essential fatty acids is approximately 1:1 (one to one).
In human physiology, Omega 6’s are used to start the inflammatory cascade, following injury or infection, while the Omega 3’s function is to extinguish inflammation. The average American diet is now tipped towards a lopsided 20:1 ratio in favor of the Omega 6s, because of the constant presence of corn or other Omega 6 oils in most prepared foods.
This dietary imbalance has contributed to a dramatic increase in inflammatory and autoimmune disorders during the last 30 years.
[29,

One potential solution is to attempt to restrict your use of Omega 6 cooking oils (derived from vegetables, seeds and nuts) while increasing the use of Omega 3 oils (found in olive, flaxseed, and canola oil).
The purest source for all 7 of the important Omega 3’s are available in
Besides reducing inflammation, numerous studies have shown that Omega-3s are equally effective, and MUCH safer for pain relief than either opioids or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Basic science and clinical studies have shown that increased dietary intake of Omega-3 fatty acids results in a reduction in the pain of rheumatoid arthritis, dysmenorrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, and neuropathy.

For those suffering extreme intestinal symptoms, start your program with
Omega Guard,
OptiFlora,
EZ-Gest, and
Stress Relief Complex, because you need to halt the inflammation first.
Then, as the inflammation starts to reduce, then add either the
Life-Strip or
Vitalizer to your regimen, along with one of Shaklee's soy protein products
As the intestines begin to heal, the other supplements will be more easily tolerated
and better absorbed.
Bon appetite!
